Quepos and Manuel Antonio Area
The biggest crowd puller of this area is the wonderful Manuel Antonio National Park. It actually attracts the highest number of tourists in the country. In fact this National Park has become so popular that a daily quota was introduced to protect it from getting damaged because of too many visitors. There are primary and secondary forests, twelve islands off the coast, over 100 species of mammals and close to 200 species of birds in an area of 682 plus hectares, which is why Manuel Antonio National Park is considered one of the last natural zoos in the world. About 7 kilometers away is the town of Quepos, the sport fishing capital of Costa Rica, a place with all the facilities you may need, including its own small airport and the most complete marina in the country being built at this time.
Jaco Area
The town of Jaco Beach is also known as the most popular surf town of Costa Rica. It is the closest readily-accessible beach to San Jose, Costa Rica’s capital city. It is considered the liveliest and most developed beach town in the Pacific Coast.
This area holds the Carara Biological Reserve, which is an accessible natural laboratory. It possesses the largest population of scarlet macaws. These are a type of beautiful bird that is in great danger of extinction.
Dominical and Osa Peninsula Area
If you prefer a more quiet and relaxing time, then you should head down south, where there are a number of isolated beaches such as Dominical, Uvita, and Bahia Drake.
El Caño Island Biological Reserve is the snorkelers’ and diver’s paradise.
Pavones has one of the longest waves in the world, great for surfing.
Corcovado National Park is the best remaining Pacific Coastal Rainforest in Central America, and the most biologically diverse place on earth.
